I don’t know how many of you would agree, but I think all of us have that one quality that somehow becomes a reason for our dejection. One such quality of mine, which is often deemed a “good quality” by others, is “observation.”

I observe a lot, and with this observation, what often comes as a byproduct is melancholy and mental upheaval.

One fine evening, when I was roaming around in the park, I saw many elderly people, mostly ladies, laughing and enjoying their time. They were members of the senior citizen club of my society who were just having some fun sessions. Out of everything, what caught me off guard was the radiant and even skin of these people.

It made me wonder, how are they having such flawless skin at this age, that too without having any specific skincare routine?

It was something I cannot fathom because I, despite trying so many things, have skin full of dark circles under my eyes, uneven tone, etc.

Out of genuine curiosity, I went to one of those aunties, and the very first question that I asked her was, Aunty, how is your skin so flawless?

The gracious lady smiled and said, “Well, I can see the reason for your question in your eyes.

Oh wait! under your eyes.”

Everyone over there laughed so hard, and I was kind of embarrassed.

Aunty then further added, See the reason why you are having all these issues? Because you are devoid of your roots.

“Sorry, Aunty, I didn’t understand,” I replied.

Aunty then said, “Your face says it all; come and sit here; we’ll be discussing your problem and its solution from the roots.”

What are Dark Circles?

In order to understand it in the simplest way, we can refer to the dark circles as the shadows that are formed on the skin. But unlike real shadows, it doesn’t go away when you come back in the shade. It doesn’t go away easily until you do the needful.

Dark circles are often frustrating for the people, as they make the skin look dull and tired.

It can significantly affect our confidence as well. Therefore, it is essential for us to do the needful in order to get rid of these dark circles.

But before looking for the solution, all we need to do is to find the cause of this issue.

What causes Dark Circles?

From your lifestyle habits to genetics, there could be a variety of reasons behind your dark circles. Let’s have a look at a few:

1. Lifestyle choices

How we live our lives is often the biggest determinant of our body and skin health. Certain lifestyle choices, which we think won’t affect us much, have detrimental effects that you may not have imagined.

Sleep schedule: That urge to use the phone for the last 5 minutes, which eventually turns into 1-2 hr of reel scrolling, can be very harmful for your skin. Not having enough sleep will hinder the ability of our body to repair itself, which will ultimately cause dark circles under your eyes.

Smoking and alcohol: Smoking and boozing may give you temporary happiness, but do you realize how it is going to impact you in the long term? The smoking, drinking, and also the higher intake of salt cause dilation of blood vessels that results in aggravating the dark circles.

Excessive rubbing: The excessive rubbing around the eyes can also cause hyperpigmentation and skin irritation.

2. Genetics

You might not believe it, but even problems like dark circles can be caused by genetic issues. Because of inherited traits, some people may naturally have darkness under the eyes.

3. Dehydration

Our skin, too, just like plants, needs water to grow and glow. The lack of water in our body will make our skin dull and sunken. Therefore, in order to improve it, we must drink plenty of water.

4. Aging

It is a natural factor that you cannot avoid; however, there are certain factors that you can surely adopt to minimize its impact.

5. Allergies

The allergies and even sinus can cause irritation and darkness around the eyes. The histamines are released during the allergies, which further cause such issues.

6. Anemia

The deficiency of iron, or anemia, is one of the major reasons behind the darkening of skin under our eye. The low levels of iron diminish the supply of oxygen to tissues, that ultimately results in dark circles.

7. Thin Skin

Those having thinner skin may also have dark circles under the eyes, as because of the thin skin around the eyes, blood vessels are more visible, which further leads to a purplish or bluish tint.
